December 8, 2011 – SOCAP Great Lakes Holiday Luncheon
A long standing tradition in the Great Lakes chapter is a Holiday Luncheon where we elect our new board for the coming year and pass the gavel and take time to reflect on the holiday season and give back to those less fortunate. Sue Hren passed the gavel to Jason Wolcott. We were lucky to have a representative from the United States Marine Corp Reserves join us for lunch, Corporal Ray Black. He spoke with us about his active duty in Iraq as well as his current role in the reserves with Toys for Tots. The number of kids and families they are able to provide for in the Detroit area is truly amazing and we helped by giving him our donation of toys. The Star Awards given out at the National meeting in October were presented to Chip Rohde and Ann LaBara.

October 2011 – Customer Service Week
Each year during the month of October we celebrate the business we are all so fond of…Customer Service. It is a part of everything we do and what we are all about. The Great Lakes Chapter decided to do something a little different this year playing off of the key themes of what CS week is all about: motivation, teamwork, raising awareness, walking your talk and commitment. This year we decided to give back to a community in need in Pontiac, Michigan – Grace Centers of Hope. Slowly but surely, Grace Centers of Hope is buying up old abandoned buildings, street by street and rebuilding a city. Their motto is: “ One person, one home, one street, one community, one day at a time.” Volunteers from the SOCAP GL chapter worked in teams, gave back, raised awareness, walked our talk and made a commitment to a community in need over two weekends in October. We painted, cleaned out abandoned houses and picked up debris. Our hope is to keep the motivation going of these people to continue to get off the streets, get clean, put their lives back together and work towards becoming product citizens.
